Women, Work & Action: How Small Steps Can Spark Big Change

Accelerating Action, One Step at a Time!

Growing up in Singapore, I have seen how women balance multiple roles—career, family, and cultural expectations—all while being told to stay humble and let hard work speak for itself. But sometimes, waiting to be noticed isn’t enough.

The 2025 International Women’s Day theme, "#AccelerateAction," reminds me that change happens in everyday moments. It’s not just about big policies—it’s about the small but powerful choices we make.

🌟 A young professional I coached finally negotiated her salary instead of just accepting what was offered. She was nervous, but she did it—and got a better package than she expected!

🌟 A mother returning to the workforce struggled with self-doubt, wondering if she was still "good enough." She faced with several job rejections due to the career gap of 3 years where she decided to stay home for her 2 children to spend growing up times with them. With her younger child turning 3 years old and going to day care, she wanted to return to the workforce, of course for financial support for the family, as well as to have her knowledge contributed to the workforce. With encouragement and her determination, she took that leap, struggling initially with the culture change and mind shift — and today, she’s thriving in a new role, and enjoying her job!

🌟 My another client was very much disturbed by her own lack of energy which each day she faced with her family after her work. She enjoyed being in the childcare as a ChildCare (Pre-school) Educator; surrounded by the children in the childcare, she showered her energy upon them and her patience went emptied by the end of her day. She found herself dragging her feet home and unable to pay the same attention to her own children. Guilt, is what she felt each time she sees her children not able to get her full attention. Through our coaching sessions, she was able to understand herself better, and have a clarity of what she needs to do next. Today, she remains as a loving mother to her 2 young children, managing out work schedules with her husband and at the same time, fulfilling her career aspiration as a freelance trainer.

Action doesn’t always have to be loud. Sometimes, it’s just about taking that next step.

What’s a small action that made a big difference for you or someone you know? Let’s share and inspire each other.
