In a coaching conversation about ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ at work, a client shared this:
โItโs quite frustrating when messages come in after working hours. Can people just send them during office time?โ
What made it interesting?
The content ๐ธ๐ข๐ด๐ฏโ๐ต spam. It was actually useful โ articles, updates, things worth knowing.
So we explored a little deeper. Because the real question wasnโt ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ป the message was sent.
It became: โWhatโs happening inside you when it comes in?โ
โข Do you feel the need to read it immediately?
โข Worried you might forget?
โข Feel like you should respond?
And then the realisation landed
Even if it were sent during working hoursโฆ Would you definitely engage with it differently? Or is it the same internal pressure showing up?
Thatโs where the shift happened.
From: โThey should send it at a better timeโ
My client left with something
Not everything needs an immediate response
โ I can park it and come back later
โ I manage my time โ not my notifications
Sometimes, itโs not about changing the timing. Itโs about changing our ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ with it.
As an ICF PCC coach, I work with clients on these everyday workplace tensions, the kind that seem small, but quietly shape how we think, react, and show up.
